Santa and Elf - FREE PATTERN

Amigurumi Santa and Elf Christmas Minis

by Meriah Martin @Not_Your_Yiyas_Crochet

I'm not sure how it happened, but its already the middle of November and its time to start thinking of all things Holidays!  As soon as November hit, I knew I wanted to create a cute, fun, and easy pattern to share with you all ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ…

I've come up with this adorable, versatile pattern for you to create your own crochet Christmas at home, or anywhere you want to spread the joy of the holidays.  These mini's are only a few inches tall and stand on their own - no wabbles with these guys.

The pattern below will work for both Santa and his Elf, you'll just need to change a couple details, which I'll provide you all the info you need to do it yourself.

Lets get started!

Difficulty:  Easy
Terms Used:  US Crochet terminology
  • SC (Single Crochet)
  • MR (Magic Ring or Magic Circle)
  • DEC (Decrease)
  • FLO (Front Loop Only)
  • BLO (Back Loop Only)
  • F/O (finish off)
  • ST/STS (stitch / stitches)

Materials Needed:
Size E/4 3.5mm Crochet Hook
Scissors
Darning needle
Stitch Marker (a piece of scrap yarn will work just fine)
Pollyfill
Felt for buttons *optional*
Small amount of worsted weight yarn in the following colors.  (I use Lily Sugar and Cream 100% cotton yarn in each of these)
  • Tan (Ecru shown)
  • Green or Red
  • White (if making Santa)

Body and head are worked in one piece (I'll avoid sewing pieces by any means possible ๐Ÿ˜‚).

A bunch of mini's in the works.

Hat: (with primary color - or use another color and switch it up!  whatever you want to to do)

We are going to be adding two stitches each round until we get to 30 stitches, the same as the number of stitches in the widest point of the head.  I am not a fond of working in rounds that start this small, but everything else seemed too bulky or the hat seemed too short when done.  I tried - I'm sorry :)

1.      4 SC in MR (4)
2.     *1 SC in next st, 2 SC in next st* (6)
3.     *1 SC in next 2 sts, 2 SC in next st* (8)

12.   *1 SC in next 11 sts, 2 SC in next st* (26)
13.   *1 SC in next 12 sts, 2 SC in next st* (28)
14.   *1 SC in next 13 sts, 2 SC in next st* (30)
F/O leave tail for sewing

Do not stuff hat.  Attach right around row 6 of the head.  This will seem a bit low, but we want it to cover where his eyes would be.

-------------------------------------------

Arms:  Make 2

Starting with flesh colored yarn (use white yarn if you are making Santa)

1.      5 SC in MR (5)
2.      2 SC in each st around (10)
3.      1 SC in each st around (10)

Switch to primary color

4-5.   1 SC in each st around (10)

F/O Leave tail for sewing

Attach arms to body, use pins to make sure they are even.  I attach them at row 3 of the body.

Little T-Rex arms. Poor guys

-------------------------------------------

Nose:  In flesh color

1.      4 SC in MR (4)
Pull closed and slip stitch or invisible join to complete circle.

F/O leaving tail for sewing

Attach nose at row 7, so the tip is touching the top of the hat

-------------------------------------------
Adding customizations:

For Elf:
  • With some red or pink embroidery floss, give him a little mouth
  • Use a small amount white felt cut into circle for buttons (if you dont have felt, you can create two more noses using white yarn and sew on)
Santa:
  •  Cut white yarn into 3-4 inch lengths and attach to face to create Santa's signature beard
-------------------------------------------
